Microscope Camp      posted 06-27-2006

We started microscope camp tonight. Sage did a good bit of work concerning flowers. We are going to gather some different ones tomorrow and dissect them. We might even check out some pollen under the micrcoscope.

I am pretty tired tonight - that boy just goes like an energizer button while I am sitting here typing with my eyes closed. lol

Computer Graphics Week!      posted 06-13-2006

We have been doing Computer Graphics. Sage has learned Photoshop and has really enjoyed it. Avery tagged along with us as well.

Also, we've been working through our geography book. Avery really seemed to enjoy it. He put Sage up to asking me one night (at MIDNIGHT) if I would stay up and do some homeschooling with them.

I did - he really had a good time with the Photoshop. Sage really did well - he flew right into it - would not listen to instructions for ANYTHING, but the next time I looked over he was using advanced concepts to do his work with.

Latin      posted 03-24-2006

We've been working through Carole Marsh's Intro to Latin workbook. Sage has enjoyed it. He has asked to do Latin instead of Spanish. I ordered the Rosetta Stone for Latin. It should be in any day now.

Last night, Sage made an Olive Commercial as if he were an ancient Roman selling Olives. He was rather funny.

Saint Patrick's day      posted 03-17-2006

Tonight we went to a Saint Patrick's Day event at Gilreath. Hank also was there. The kids played ball, ate cookies, bounced in the air trampoline, and did a coloring contest. Sage won First Place!

Cat Tails and Classification      posted 02-28-2006

Report card went out today!

We have been learning about scientific classification. We have a copy of Milliken's book on classification that we've been working through. We will be finishing this study this week.

Today was playday - Sage enjoyed playing with Jamie in a small drained swamp. The kids had a ball having cat tail fights. There were so many seeds flying around that it looked like it was snowing.

As soon as we got home, I had him strip and take a hot bath. Luckily, it seems to early in the year for chiggers!

Catch up day      posted 02-23-2006

Sage had company over Tuesday and Wednesday, so we didn't get much done.

We did study joints on Wed., and Sage as able to apply what he knew about ball and socket joints to a lego guy he built. The guy had a helmet that was held on with a ball and socket type joint.

Today, was pure catch up. We had to cover every subject today, but Sage was in a good mood so we even did a piano class.

Tomorrow will be much lighter. I know we are both glad. :)

Bookstore and More!      posted 02-15-2006

Today wasn't an official school day, but we still had lots of fun!

Sage went to the doctor today. He's going to have an occupational therapy consult to see if his fine motor skills might be a bit delayed and hopefully find something to help develop them better.

He enjoyed acting class a good deal, and then we went to Barnes and Noble bookstore. He had a ball! He read for nearly 3 hours straight.

He was so tired when we got home that he just went to bed for the night.

Study of Islam Completed      posted 02-13-2006

We've made our Valentines and even made bookmarks.

Over the weekend we studied applique and collage as art and even did a collage on canvas with mixed media.

Tonight, we finished our unit study on ISLAM.

"Kinda good overall except for history"      posted 02-10-2006

We started the night with art. We made radial designs, snowflakes. Sage did a mask, an army of birds out of construction paper.

Then we read and Sage finished his 4th grade writing book. Next was history, which Sage had quite a bit of trouble with. Mama lost her temper. Sage is to finish the history assignment on his OWN with 90% or more right and only then can he regain his computer privlidges.

While mama was washing dishes, Sage worked on the history, and working on his paper bird story. There were commanders, top agents, elite agents, bosses.

We finished the night off with some Spanish alphabet practice and a few new adjectives.

Frogs!      posted 02-09-2006
Neat Froggy Conservation Site

We've learned about frogs today! We watched a United Streaming Video about frogs - FROGS: FACT and FOLKLORE

WE also did a virtual frog dissection online that was very good, from Berkely.

Sage studied spacial perception in art, and did a profile drawing of a frog.

We read an article on frogs in an old Ranger Rick issue.

We looked at the pictures available for the new species of frogs on Google.

We added a computer game to Sage's website.

It was a very froggy day!

Capital Trip      posted 02-06-2006
A few pictures of Homeschool Day at the Capital

Today, we went to the Georgia State Capital building in Atlanta. It was rainy and cold, but we set out on our adventure. Sage was very excited to go.

After we arrived, we realized we'd not brought an umbrella. The rain was relentless as we wondered around looking for the Marta station that was so supposedly close. Alas, we had went the wrong way. Once we found it, we were OFF!

Sage really enjoyed riding the subway. I think that was the highlight of his day. He was facinated by everything about it.

At the capital, we watched the house in session, and explored the capital building. We saw the homeschool concert band and they were GREAT!

After a tour of the capital with a focus on history, we left and were on our way. Sage was very hungry, so when I realized that Underground could be accessed without further trek in the rain - we changed our plans and went to Underground.

We ate and enjoyed the music and atmosphere that is unique to underground Atlanta.

To complete our homeschool for today, we've done a good bit of reading, history, and writing.

We also spent a good deal of time tonight drawing. Sage is really improving with his fine motor skills. I see them starting to very rapidly develop.

He took initiative in writing tonight, and for this I was very proud of him.

Lots and Lots of Reading!      posted 01-30-2006

We really did a lot of reading over the weekend. We finished The Magician's Nephew on Saturday night, and tonight we read Robinson Crusoe. Both were great!

This week we will be spending a lot of time doing art and history in particular. We are well ahead on math and science.

A New Week Begins!      posted 01-22-2006

Spanish Word of the Day - endulzar- to sweeten

On the platter for this week is a trip to the movies, possible playday on Tuesday, and theater class/swimming/roundtable Wednesday, and Star Party 2006 hopefully this weekend.

The Star Party may be postponed due to bad weather. We're watching the forecast eagerly.

For academics this week, we'll continue to focus on writing, math and geography.

We anticipate finishing our current science book as well.

Busy Night!      posted 01-17-2006

We had a busy night last night! We did lego class, writing, science, and a lot of reading.

We looked over our book collection and sorted them by priority/likes and dislikes.

We started a poetry unit as well, and learned about Carl Sandberg.

Sage is to learn "FOG" by Carl Sandberg.

We Decided to Renew Ed-Helper      posted 01-16-2006
This is our homeschool group's web link.

We renewed EdHelper today. Perhaps the biggest problem with it was that the material we had access to was grade school, and often we wanted higher levels. So, we upgraded to the highschool level. Classbuider came with it, so I am going to attempt to use it for organizational purposes.

We will continue to use Homeschool Tracker as well.
