Make a timeline of all fifty states in the order they obtained statehood on any size poster. Decorate the timeline with symbols that represent information about the states.

Research a World War I song. Write down the title and the lyric. Underneath the lyric identify the main message of the song. Share the lyric with the class by reading it or playing it (if available). This does not need to be on poster board, but does need to be displayable.

Make a poster that looks like one page of a dictionary with 12 verbs that you created (in true Frindle style). The poster must include guide words. The words must be in alphabetical order, and each entry word must have a pronunciation key, definition, and a meaningful sentence or picture.

All extra credit is due December 15th. I will not accept the extra credit if it does not meet my requirements. This must be quality work that I am proud to display. You may not earn more than 15 extra credit points per subject.

Social Studies for Leslie
5 points- memorize Article 13, 14, or 15 (5 points for each)
10 points- make a powerpoint about one of the "People to Know" in chapters 3 or 4 (must have at least 8 slides)
15 points- make a Civil War scrapbook that includes at least 10 pictures of important people, places, and events that happened during the Civil War, add short phrases or decorative symbols that help us understand more about the pictures

Science for Leslie
5 points- bring in a fossil to show the class, tell the class what it is, where it was found, how it was found, and the estimated age if known
10 points- form a hypothesis about an inherited trait and survey at least 30 people to collect informatin,then display your results on a graph(do not do curled tongue, unattached earlobe, or hitchhiker's thumb since we already did that in class)
15 points- make a board game called "Heredity" on any size poster board, the game should have game pieces, game cards that use academic vocabulary, and a spinner or dice (for example game card could say, "You have a mutation, go back 2 spaces" or "You have a dominant trait, move ahead to the next red space")

5 points- design a book cover for your AR book

Language for Leslie
5 points- bring in an editorial from the newspaper and describe the persuasive writing elements (have parent help you select an appropriate editorial)
5 points- make a community service poster with a top ten list, topics could include smoking, bullying, cheating, harming the environment, display in the fifth grade hallway after teacher approves
5 points- take pictures of your family's favorite possessions, display the pictures on any size poster and write the possessive form under each (for example you could have a picture of a silver teapot and have Grandmother's teapot under the picture or an Xbox with kids' Xbox under the picture)
