Math Lesson 4 was not assigned today. We had a placement test instead. Their only homework in math is fact practice.

Homework will typically follow this pattern:

Math :

A lesson per day. Occasionally a student may finish all their work in class, especially in the beginning of the year when the lessons are review. They will also have a fact practice page. Please time your child for 5 minutes. Math is always due the next day.

Spelling: Due the next day.

Monday (or the first day of the week): Write each word in neatest cursive.

Tuesday: Put spelling list in ABC order

Wednesday: Some other spelling activity such as a word sort, sentences etc.

Thursday: Study vocabulary and spelling for test on Friday. A language arts skills sheet to reinforce the grammar lesson of the week is usually assigned on Thursday as well.

Each day your child should read a book of their choice for 30 minutes. It can be pretty much anything they are interested in. If your child isn't a self-starter when it comes to reading (like both of mine!), set the timer and have all electronics off for 30 minutes. By the time they are in 4th grade, they should be past the level of books that are finished in 5 minutes. If you need help selecting appropriate reading material for you child, please stop by (or email) after school.

Please remember to sign their planners every day. Your signature shows your child that being responsible is important enough for you to insure that they keep up with their work every day. It also tells me that they did their required reading each night.

NOTE: FOR THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL, STUDENTS WILL ONLY HAVE MATH HOMEWORK.
