Variable - a symbol used to represent a quantity that changes.

Constant - A value that does not change

Algebraic Expression - An expression that contains at least one variable.

Evaluate - to find the value of a numerical or algebraic expression.

Verbal expression - a word or phrase.

Coefficient - the number that is multiplied by the variable in an algebraic expression

Term - the parts of an expression that are added or subtracted

Like terms - terms with the same variable and same exponent

Equation - a mathematical statement that two expression are equal in value

Solution - the value of the variable that makes the statement true

Solve - find a solution to the equation

Isolate the variable - get the variable alone on one side of the equation

Inverse operations - math operations that undo eachother
Ex: addition and subtraction
multiplication and division
square an square root

Measure of Central Tendency - A measure used to describe the middle of a data set.

Mean - (Average) The sum of the items in a set of data divided by the number of items in the set.

Median - The middle number in a data set. If two numbers in the middle, add them and divide by 2.

Mode - The number(s) that occur most frequent in a set of data.

Range - The difference between the largest and least number in a data set.

Outlier – a value much greater or much less than the others in the data set

Interquartile Range – the difference between the upper and lower quartiles in a box and whiskers plot.
